Description

A Blind SQL Injection vulnerability in Futurum Software’s management software, caused by a lack of adequate validation and sanitisation of user-provided inputs in queries to the private area’s database, as well as by an incorrect WAF configuration. This weakness allows the protection mechanisms to be bypassed solely by sending manipulated HTTP requests. Successful exploitation of the vulnerability could allow an unauthenticated attacker to execute arbitrary queries against the database, extract its complete structure and gain access to sensitive customer information, including personally identifiable information (PII).

CWE ID Description
CWE-89 The product constructs all or part of an SQL command using externally-influenced input from an upstream component, but it does not neutralize or incorrectly neutralizes special elements that could modify the intended SQL command when it is sent to a downstream component. Without sufficient removal or quoting of SQL syntax in user-controllable inputs, the generated SQL query can cause those inputs to be interpreted as SQL instead of ordinary user data.

Executive Summary

This is a Blind SQL Injection vulnerability in Futurum Software's management software. It occurs due to insufficient validation and sanitization of user inputs in database queries, combined with an incorrect WAF configuration. Attackers can bypass security by sending manipulated HTTP requests, allowing them to execute arbitrary queries and access sensitive customer data like PII.

Detection Guidance

To detect this Blind SQL Injection vulnerability, monitor HTTP request logs for unusual patterns such as excessive query lengths, repeated requests, or malformed inputs. Use tools like SQLmap to test for SQLi by sending crafted requests to the authentication module endpoints. Check WAF logs for bypass attempts or anomalies in traffic.

Impact Analysis

An unauthenticated attacker could exploit this to extract the entire database structure and access sensitive customer information, including personally identifiable information (PII). This could lead to data breaches, identity theft, or unauthorized access to confidential business data.

Compliance Impact

This vulnerability could lead to unauthorized access and exposure of personally identifiable information (PII), which directly violates compliance requirements under GDPR and HIPAA. Organizations may face legal penalties, fines, and reputational damage due to non-compliance resulting from data breaches.

Mitigation Strategies

Immediately update to the latest version of Futurum Software’s authentication module to patch the vulnerability. Review and correct WAF configurations to block manipulated HTTP requests. Implement strict input validation and sanitization for all user-provided data in database queries.
