SQL Injection in Web 2.0 Directory WordPress Plugin

Vulnerability report for CVE-2026-15272, including description, CVSS score, EPSS score, affected products, exploitability, helpful resources, and attack-flow context.

Description

The Web 2.0 Directory plugin for WordPress is vulnerable to time-based SQL Injection via the 'w2dc_level_filter' parameter in all versions up to, and including, 2.10.12 due to insufficient escaping on the user supplied parameter and lack of sufficient preparation on the existing SQL query. This makes it possible for unauthenticated attackers to append additional SQL queries into already existing queries that can be used to extract sensitive information from the database. Because the parameter is used in integer context without surrounding quotes, WordPress's built-in addslashes/magic_quotes escaping provides no protection against time-based payloads such as SLEEP-based conditionals.

CWE ID Description
CWE-89 The product constructs all or part of an SQL command using externally-influenced input from an upstream component, but it does not neutralize or incorrectly neutralizes special elements that could modify the intended SQL command when it is sent to a downstream component. Without sufficient removal or quoting of SQL syntax in user-controllable inputs, the generated SQL query can cause those inputs to be interpreted as SQL instead of ordinary user data.

Executive Summary

This vulnerability is a time-based SQL Injection in the Web 2.0 Directory WordPress plugin up to version 2.10.12. It occurs due to improper escaping of the 'w2dc_level_filter' parameter, allowing unauthenticated attackers to inject malicious SQL queries. The flaw enables extraction of sensitive database information through time-based techniques like SLEEP-based conditionals.

Detection Guidance

To detect this vulnerability, inspect WordPress sites using the Web 2.0 Directory plugin versions up to 2.10.12. Check for suspicious SQL queries or time delays in responses. Use tools like WPScan with command: wpscan --url <target> --enumerate vp,vt --plugins-detection aggressive. Monitor database logs for unexpected queries involving the 'w2dc_level_filter' parameter.

Impact Analysis

If exploited, attackers could access sensitive data stored in the WordPress database, including user credentials, personal information, or other confidential content. The vulnerability requires no authentication, increasing the risk of remote exploitation. Attackers might also manipulate database queries to alter or delete data.

Compliance Impact

This vulnerability could lead to unauthorized access to personal data, violating GDPR and HIPAA requirements for data protection and confidentiality. Organizations using the affected plugin may face compliance violations, legal penalties, and reputational damage due to potential data breaches.

Mitigation Strategies

Immediately update the Web 2.0 Directory plugin to the latest version beyond 2.10.12. If an update is unavailable, disable or remove the plugin. Implement a web application firewall to block SQL injection attempts. Review database user permissions to limit access and ensure no unnecessary privileges exist.
