Platform-mbean RBAC Bypass in JBoss EAP

Vulnerability report for CVE-2026-19610, including description, CVSS score, EPSS score, affected products, exploitability, helpful resources, and attack-flow context.

Description

A flaw was found in the platform-mbean component of JBoss EAP, which provides management access to JVM-level metrics and configurations. The issue occurs because the handler for the read-resource operation on the runtime management resource fails to perform required Role-Based Access Control (RBAC) checks. This allows an authenticated user with low-privileged access, such as the Monitor role, to view sensitive system properties and JVM configuration details that should be restricted.

Executive Summary

This vulnerability is in the platform-mbean component of JBoss EAP, which manages JVM metrics and configurations. It occurs because the handler for the read-resource operation fails to perform required Role-Based Access Control checks. This allows low-privileged authenticated users, like those with the Monitor role, to view sensitive system properties and JVM configurations that should be restricted.

Detection Guidance

To detect this vulnerability, check JBoss EAP logs for unauthorized read-resource operations on the platform-mbean component. Monitor for access attempts by low-privileged users like the Monitor role viewing sensitive JVM configurations. Use commands like grep to search logs for 'read-resource' operations targeting platform-mbean paths.

Impact Analysis

An attacker with low privileges could exploit this to read sensitive system properties and JVM configurations. This may lead to unauthorized access to system details, potential data leaks, or further attacks leveraging exposed configuration weaknesses.

Compliance Impact

This vulnerability could lead to unauthorized access to sensitive data, violating confidentiality requirements in GDPR and HIPAA. Exposure of system properties and JVM configurations may result in non-compliance with data protection and security standards.

Mitigation Strategies

Apply the latest JBoss EAP patches if available. Restrict access to management interfaces by ensuring only authorized roles can perform read-resource operations. Review and update RBAC policies to enforce strict access controls on platform-mbean resources.
