Executive Summary

This vulnerability involves a web server that fails to verify authentication for POST or PUT requests. An attacker can reboot the charger without authentication. By brute-forcing the configid, they may also set the service password and modify any configuration settings.

Detection Guidance

Check if unauthenticated POST or PUT requests are accepted by the web server. Monitor network traffic for unusual reboot or config changes. Test with curl commands like 'curl -X POST http://<target>/reboot' or 'curl -X PUT http://<target>/config' to see if they succeed without authentication.

Impact Analysis

An attacker could gain control over the charger, reboot it, or change critical settings like the service password. This could disrupt operations, cause downtime, or allow further unauthorized access to the system.

Compliance Impact

This vulnerability may violate compliance requirements for data protection and system integrity, such as unauthorized access controls in GDPR or HIPAA. It could lead to data breaches or unauthorized modifications, risking regulatory penalties.

Mitigation Strategies

Restrict access to the web server via firewall rules. Disable unauthenticated POST/PUT endpoints if possible. Update the device firmware if a patch is available. Monitor for unauthorized reboot or config changes.
