Description

WeGIA is a web manager for charitable institutions. Prior to 3.8.6, the unauthenticated web/html/socio/sistema/cadastro_cobranca.php endpoint accepts POST input through extract($_REQUEST) and directly incorporates valor, valor_pago, id_pessoa, id_socio, and id_sociotipo into UPDATE, INSERT, and SELECT statements without prepared statements. A remote attacker can use the affected parameters to execute arbitrary SQL that reads or modifies WeGIA database content, including billing records and credential data. The same SQL access can delete or truncate tables, causing loss of application data. This issue is fixed in version 3.8.6.

CWE ID Description
CWE-89 The product constructs all or part of an SQL command using externally-influenced input from an upstream component, but it does not neutralize or incorrectly neutralizes special elements that could modify the intended SQL command when it is sent to a downstream component. Without sufficient removal or quoting of SQL syntax in user-controllable inputs, the generated SQL query can cause those inputs to be interpreted as SQL instead of ordinary user data.

Executive Summary

This is a critical SQL injection vulnerability in WeGIA software versions 3.8.0 through 3.8.5. The flaw allows unauthenticated attackers to manipulate database operations by injecting malicious SQL code through parameters like valor, valor_pago, id_pessoa, id_socio, and id_sociotipo. The issue occurs because user input is directly incorporated into SQL queries without proper sanitization or prepared statements.

Detection Guidance

Check if your WeGIA version is below 3.8.6 by inspecting the software version or changelog. Test the vulnerable endpoint by sending POST requests with crafted parameters like valor=1, id_pessoa=1 to html/socio/sistema/cadastro_cobranca.php and observe if SQL errors or unexpected data responses occur.

Impact Analysis

An attacker could exploit this to read or modify sensitive data such as billing records and user credentials including admin password hashes. They could also delete or truncate database tables causing permanent data loss. The vulnerability allows full database compromise without requiring authentication.

Compliance Impact

This vulnerability likely violates compliance requirements for data protection regulations like GDPR and HIPAA by enabling unauthorized access to and modification of sensitive personal and health information. It compromises data confidentiality and integrity, which are core requirements of these standards.

Mitigation Strategies

Upgrade WeGIA to version 3.8.6 or later immediately. If upgrading is not possible, restrict network access to the vulnerable endpoint using firewalls or disable it. Review database logs for suspicious SQL queries and revoke unnecessary database permissions for the WeGIA application user.
