Frappe Framework SQL Injection via Report Input

Vulnerability report for CVE-2026-55823, including description, CVSS score, EPSS score, affected products, exploitability, helpful resources, and attack-flow context.

Description

Frappe is a full-stack web application framework. Prior to 16.23.0, the get_count() method in reportview composes a count operation around generated SQL through a raw database execution path, allowing crafted report input to alter SQL executed by the application. This issue is fixed in version 16.23.0.

CWE ID Description
CWE-89 The product constructs all or part of an SQL command using externally-influenced input from an upstream component, but it does not neutralize or incorrectly neutralizes special elements that could modify the intended SQL command when it is sent to a downstream component. Without sufficient removal or quoting of SQL syntax in user-controllable inputs, the generated SQL query can cause those inputs to be interpreted as SQL instead of ordinary user data.

Executive Summary

This vulnerability exists in the Frappe framework before version 16.23.0. The get_count() method in reportview uses raw SQL execution to perform count operations. An attacker can craft malicious report input to manipulate the SQL query executed by the application, potentially leading to unauthorized data access or manipulation.

Detection Guidance

To detect this vulnerability, check if your Frappe Framework version is below 16.23.0. Use the command: frappe --version. If the version is older, the system is vulnerable. Additionally, inspect reportview functionality for raw SQL execution paths in custom reports.

Impact Analysis

If exploited, this vulnerability could allow attackers to execute arbitrary SQL commands on the database. This may result in unauthorized data retrieval, modification, or deletion, depending on the database permissions. It could also enable further attacks like data exfiltration or privilege escalation within the application.

Compliance Impact

This vulnerability could lead to unauthorized access or exposure of sensitive data, violating GDPR's data protection principles and HIPAA's security requirements. Non-compliance may result in legal penalties, fines, or reputational damage due to compromised personal or health information.

Mitigation Strategies

Upgrade Frappe to version 16.23.0 or later to address the SQL injection vulnerability in the get_count() method.
