Executive Summary

This is a Stored Cross-Site Scripting (XSS) vulnerability in the SABBATIC application. It allows an attacker to inject malicious JavaScript code into the 'observaciones' parameter of the /mis-gastos endpoint. When a user views the affected page, the injected code executes in their browser.

Detection Guidance

To detect this Stored XSS vulnerability in the SABBATIC application, inspect the 'observaciones' parameter in the /mis-gastos endpoint for malicious JavaScript code. Check server logs for unusual input patterns or payloads in this parameter. Manually review application responses for script tags or event handlers in stored data.

Impact Analysis

An attacker could steal user sessions, redirect users to malicious sites, or perform actions on behalf of users. It may lead to unauthorized data access, account takeovers, or defacement of the application.

Compliance Impact

This vulnerability could lead to data breaches, violating GDPR's integrity and confidentiality principles or HIPAA's security requirements. It may result in unauthorized access to personal or health data, leading to legal penalties and reputational damage.

Mitigation Strategies

Immediately sanitize user input for the 'observaciones' parameter using a library like DOMPurify or OWASP ESAPI. Implement strict output encoding when rendering stored data. Apply Content Security Policy (CSP) headers to restrict inline scripts. Update the application to the latest patched version if available.
