Executive Summary

This is a Cross-Site Request Forgery (CSRF) vulnerability in the SABBATIC application. It allows an attacker to trick an authenticated user into clicking a malicious link or loading a page that sends unauthorized requests to a vulnerable endpoint.

Detection Guidance

Detecting CSRF vulnerabilities typically involves reviewing web application code for missing or improperly implemented CSRF tokens in forms and requests. Check server logs for unusual or unauthorized requests originating from authenticated sessions. Use tools like OWASP ZAP or Burp Suite to scan for CSRF flaws by analyzing request headers and parameters for token absence.

Impact Analysis

An attacker could exploit this to perform actions on behalf of an authenticated user without their consent. This might include changing settings, making unauthorized transactions, or accessing sensitive data.

Mitigation Strategies

Implement CSRF tokens in all state-changing requests. Ensure tokens are unique per session and validated on the server side. Add SameSite cookie attributes to session cookies. Use frameworks that include built-in CSRF protection like Django, Ruby on Rails, or Spring Security.
