Executive Summary

CVE-2026-59386 is a privilege escalation flaw in Cloud Foundry where a SpaceSupporter can improperly modify an application's start command and buildpack. These actions normally require SpaceDeveloper privileges, allowing unauthorized retrieval of service credentials through malicious commands or buildpacks.

Detection Guidance

To detect this vulnerability, check for unauthorized modifications to application start commands or buildpacks by SpaceSupporter roles. Review logs for unusual buildpack usage or start command changes in Cloud Foundry environments. Use commands like 'cf curl /v3/apps' to inspect application configurations and 'cf events <app-name>' to check for suspicious activity.

Impact Analysis

An attacker with SpaceSupporter access could exploit this to steal sensitive service credentials, potentially leading to data breaches, unauthorized access to databases, or further compromise of the Cloud Foundry environment.

Compliance Impact

This vulnerability could lead to unauthorized access to personal or sensitive data, violating compliance requirements such as GDPR (data protection) and HIPAA (health information privacy). Organizations must mitigate this risk to maintain regulatory compliance.

Mitigation Strategies

Upgrade Cloud Foundry CAPI to version 1.248.0 or higher and cf-deployment to version 60.9.0 or higher. Review and restrict SpaceSupporter privileges to prevent unauthorized modifications. Monitor applications for unexpected credential retrieval attempts.
