Description

Cloud Controller (CAPI) leaks sensitive data into audit logs in multiple instances: custom buildpack credentials are exposed in audit events for app manifest application, creation, and updates; syslog drain URL credentials are exposed in user-provided service instance audit events; and service binding parameters are leaked in app manifest and service binding audit events.

Executive Summary

CVE-2026-59388 is a vulnerability in Cloud Foundry's Cloud Controller (CAPI) where sensitive data like custom buildpack credentials, syslog drain URL credentials, and service binding parameters are exposed in audit logs during app manifest creation, updates, and service binding events.

Detection Guidance

Check audit logs for exposed secrets in specific events: audit.app.apply_manifest, audit.app.create, audit.app.update, audit.user_provided_service_instance.create, audit.user_provided_service_instance.update, and audit.service_binding.* events. Look for plaintext credentials or sensitive parameters in these logs.

Impact Analysis

Attackers with access to audit logs could steal exposed credentials or sensitive parameters, leading to unauthorized access to systems, data breaches, or further exploitation of services relying on those credentials.

Compliance Impact

Exposing sensitive data in audit logs violates compliance requirements for data protection and privacy, such as GDPR and HIPAA, which mandate safeguarding personal and sensitive information. This could result in legal penalties or loss of certification.

Mitigation Strategies

Upgrade Cloud Foundry CAPI to v1.249.0 or later and update cf-deployment to v60.11.0 or later. Review and redact sensitive data in audit logs if immediate upgrades are not possible.
