Description

Omnispace Agora Project before 26.10.0 contains a SQL identifier injection vulnerability that allows a space administrator to escalate privileges by supplying caller-controlled agoraFields[] names as unvalidated SQL column identifiers during the user import flow. Attackers can inject privileged column names such as generalAdmin or use backtick-injection techniques to set administrative flags and escalate to general administrator privileges.

CWE ID Description
CWE-89 The product constructs all or part of an SQL command using externally-influenced input from an upstream component, but it does not neutralize or incorrectly neutralizes special elements that could modify the intended SQL command when it is sent to a downstream component. Without sufficient removal or quoting of SQL syntax in user-controllable inputs, the generated SQL query can cause those inputs to be interpreted as SQL instead of ordinary user data.

Executive Summary

This vulnerability is a SQL identifier injection flaw in the Omnispace Agora Project before version 26.10.0. A space administrator can exploit it by injecting caller-controlled values into the agoraFields[] parameter during user import. Attackers can use privileged column names like generalAdmin or backtick-injection to set administrative flags and escalate to general administrator privileges.

Detection Guidance

Detecting this vulnerability requires checking for SQL injection attempts in the agoraFields[] parameter during user import flows. Monitor logs for unusual SQL column names like generalAdmin or backtick characters in input fields. Inspect network traffic for POST requests to user import endpoints containing suspicious agoraFields[] values.

Impact Analysis

If exploited, this vulnerability allows an attacker with space administrator access to escalate privileges to general administrator. This could lead to unauthorized access to sensitive data, system control, and potential compromise of the entire application or infrastructure.

Compliance Impact

This vulnerability could lead to unauthorized access to sensitive data, violating GDPR and HIPAA compliance requirements for data protection and access controls. Organizations using vulnerable versions may face legal penalties, reputational damage, and loss of trust.

Mitigation Strategies

Immediately upgrade Omnispace Agora Project to version 26.10.0 or later. If upgrading is not possible, restrict access to user import functionality to trusted administrators only. Implement input validation to block SQL column names and special characters in agoraFields[] parameters.
