Description

Omnispace Agora Project before 26.10.0 contains an authentication bypass vulnerability that allows attackers possessing a user's stored bcrypt password hash to authenticate as that user without knowing the actual password, caused by the legacy AGORAP_LOG/AGORAP_PASS cookie mechanism treating the stored hash as a directly replayable bearer credential. Attackers can set the AGORAP_LOG/AGORAP_PASS cookies with a stolen password hash to impersonate any user, including administrators, and gain unauthorized access to the application.

Executive Summary

This vulnerability is an authentication bypass in Omnispace Agora Project versions before 26.10.0. It allows attackers with a user's bcrypt password hash to impersonate that user by setting legacy AGORAP_LOG and AGORAP_PASS cookies with the stolen hash. The system treats the hash as a replayable credential, enabling unauthorized access to the application, including administrator accounts.

Detection Guidance

Check for unauthorized AGORAP_LOG and AGORAP_PASS cookie usage in web traffic or logs. Inspect HTTP requests for these cookies with bcrypt hash values. Monitor for unusual authentication patterns or sessions originating from unexpected sources.

Impact Analysis

This vulnerability can lead to unauthorized access to your account or the application, allowing attackers to impersonate you or administrators. If an attacker obtains your bcrypt password hash, they can bypass authentication and gain full control over your account, potentially accessing sensitive data or performing privileged actions.

Compliance Impact

This vulnerability can lead to unauthorized access to sensitive data, violating confidentiality requirements in GDPR and HIPAA. It may result in data breaches, non-compliance with access control and authentication safeguards, and potential legal penalties for failing to protect personal or health information.

Mitigation Strategies

Upgrade Omnispace Agora Project to version 26.10.0 or later. Disable legacy cookie-based authentication mechanisms. Rotate all bcrypt password hashes and force password resets for all users. Implement additional logging to detect suspicious cookie usage.
