Description

A denial-of-service vulnerability has been identified in the Miracast over Infrastructure Connection Establishment (MICE) service. An unauthenticated attacker with network access to the MICE service could consume available connection capacity, preventing legitimate users from establishing MICE-based Miracast connections while the condition persists. Miracast P2P is not affected. MICE is disabled in the default configuration and must be explicitly enabled by the customer. On most devices, Miracast P2P is available independently of MICE, but a complete disruption of Miracast can occur on some devices when WLAN is configured for Infrastructure mode.

Executive Summary

This is a denial-of-service vulnerability in the Miracast over Infrastructure Connection Establishment (MICE) service. An unauthenticated attacker with network access could consume all available connection capacity, blocking legitimate users from establishing Miracast connections while the attack persists. MICE is not enabled by default and must be explicitly configured by the user.

Detection Guidance

Detecting this vulnerability requires monitoring for unusual network traffic targeting the MICE service. Check for excessive connection attempts or resource consumption on devices running WolfVision Cynap products. Use network monitoring tools to observe abnormal traffic patterns on ports associated with Miracast or MICE services.

Impact Analysis

If you use devices with MICE enabled, an attacker could disrupt Miracast connections, preventing you from sharing or receiving screen content. This could affect presentations, collaborations, or media streaming. Most devices use Miracast P2P by default, which is not affected.

Compliance Impact

This vulnerability causes a denial-of-service condition that disrupts Miracast connections, potentially impacting systems relying on real-time audio-visual communication. While not directly tied to data exposure, prolonged disruption could interfere with operational requirements under GDPR (availability principle) or HIPAA (accessibility of electronic protected health information).

Mitigation Strategies

Disable the MICE service if not in use, as it is disabled by default. Restrict network access to the MICE service by configuring firewalls to block unauthorized connections. Update firmware for WolfVision Cynap devices to the latest version if patches are available.
