Executive Summary

This vulnerability occurs in Routinator when parsing an AS range. If the maximum value of the range is smaller than the minimum value, Routinator will never reach the maximum and instead run out of memory due to an infinite loop or excessive resource consumption.

Impact Analysis

This vulnerability can cause a denial of service by crashing Routinator due to memory exhaustion. It may disrupt network operations relying on Routinator for AS range validation, leading to service unavailability.

Mitigation Strategies

Update Routinator to the latest version to fix the AS range parsing issue. Monitor memory usage during parsing to detect abnormal consumption. Ensure input validation for AS range values to prevent invalid ranges.
