Executive Summary

This vulnerability in Cisco Smart Licensing Utility API allows an unauthenticated remote attacker to write arbitrary files to the system or cause a denial of service (DoS) condition. It is due to improper input validation and lack of authentication in the management API.

Detection Guidance

This vulnerability can be detected by checking for unauthorized file writes or unusual API requests to the Cisco Smart Licensing Utility API. Monitor logs for requests to the affected API endpoints, especially those without authentication. Use network scanning tools to identify systems running vulnerable versions of Cisco License On-Prem.

Impact Analysis

An attacker could exploit this to modify system files or crash the affected application, leading to potential data loss, system unavailability, or unauthorized changes to the system.

Compliance Impact

This vulnerability could lead to unauthorized file modifications or denial of service, potentially compromising data integrity and availability. For GDPR, this may result in unauthorized access to personal data, violating confidentiality and integrity principles. For HIPAA, it could expose protected health information, leading to compliance breaches and unauthorized disclosures.
