Executive Summary

This is an unauthenticated buffer overflow vulnerability in HPE AOS-S. It allows an adjacent attacker without authentication to exploit a flaw that could expose sensitive memory contents and cause a denial of service on the affected device.

Detection Guidance

Detection of this vulnerability requires checking for buffer overflow conditions in AOS-S systems. Monitor network traffic for unusual patterns near AOS-S devices. Inspect system logs for crashes or memory exposure events. Use network scanning tools to identify AOS-S devices and verify their firmware versions.

Impact Analysis

An attacker could exploit this to crash the device, disrupting network operations. Sensitive memory exposure may also lead to unauthorized access to confidential data stored on the device.

Compliance Impact

The vulnerability could expose sensitive memory contents, potentially leading to unauthorized access to personal or health data. This may violate GDPR's data protection requirements and HIPAA's safeguards for protected health information if exploited.

Mitigation Strategies

Apply patches or updates provided by HPE for AOS-S to address the buffer overflow vulnerability. Isolate affected devices on the network to limit exposure and monitor for unusual activity. Review and restrict adjacent network access to reduce attack surface.
