Executive Summary

This vulnerability allows an unauthenticated remote attacker to perform SQL injection attacks against ClearPass Policy Manager. If exploited, it could let the attacker execute arbitrary database commands.

Detection Guidance

Detecting SQL injection vulnerabilities typically involves monitoring network traffic for suspicious SQL queries or database access patterns. Inspect logs for unusual database queries, especially those containing common SQL injection payloads like single quotes, semicolons, or SQL keywords (e.g., UNION, SELECT, INSERT). Use intrusion detection systems (IDS) or web application firewalls (WAF) to flag anomalous requests targeting the ClearPass Policy Manager interface.

Impact Analysis

An attacker could gain unauthorized access to sensitive data, modify or delete database records, or disrupt services. This could lead to data breaches, system outages, or unauthorized control over the ClearPass Policy Manager instance.

Compliance Impact

This vulnerability could lead to unauthorized data access or exposure, violating GDPR's data protection requirements or HIPAA's safeguards for protected health information. Non-compliance may result in legal penalties, fines, or reputational damage.

Mitigation Strategies

Apply the latest security patches or updates provided by HPE for ClearPass Policy Manager to address the SQL injection vulnerability. Isolate the affected system from untrusted networks until patched. Monitor network traffic for unusual database queries or unauthorized access attempts.
