Time-Based SQL Injection in JTL-Connector for WooCommerce

Description

The JTL-Connector for WooCommerce plugin for WordPress is vulnerable to time-based SQL Injection via 'product.push' Identity Endpoint in all versions up to, and including, 2.4.3 due to insufficient escaping on the user supplied parameter and lack of sufficient preparation on the existing SQL query. This makes it possible for unauthenticated attackers to append additional SQL queries into already existing queries that can be used to extract sensitive information from the database. The injection fires during identity linking, before ProductController::push() executes, meaning exploitation succeeds even if downstream product handling would otherwise reject the request.

CWE ID Description
CWE-89 The product constructs all or part of an SQL command using externally-influenced input from an upstream component, but it does not neutralize or incorrectly neutralizes special elements that could modify the intended SQL command when it is sent to a downstream component. Without sufficient removal or quoting of SQL syntax in user-controllable inputs, the generated SQL query can cause those inputs to be interpreted as SQL instead of ordinary user data.

Executive Summary

The JTL-Connector for WooCommerce plugin for WordPress has a time-based SQL Injection vulnerability in the 'product.push' Identity Endpoint. This flaw exists in versions up to and including 2.4.3 due to insufficient user input escaping and lack of proper SQL query preparation. Unauthenticated attackers can inject malicious SQL queries to extract sensitive database information during identity linking, even if product handling would otherwise reject the request.

Detection Guidance

To detect this vulnerability, inspect WordPress sites using the JTL-Connector for WooCommerce plugin versions up to 2.4.3. Check for unusual SQL query patterns or database access logs. No specific commands are provided in the context, but monitoring for unexpected SQL errors or slow queries may indicate exploitation attempts.

Impact Analysis

This vulnerability allows unauthenticated attackers to extract sensitive information from the WordPress database. Attackers could access confidential data such as user credentials, personal information, or other sensitive records stored in the database. The impact includes potential data breaches and unauthorized access to critical information.

Compliance Impact

This vulnerability could lead to non-compliance with GDPR and HIPAA by exposing protected health information or personal data. GDPR requires protection of personal data, and HIPAA mandates safeguards for health information. A successful exploit may result in unauthorized data access, leading to legal penalties and reputational damage.

Mitigation Strategies

Immediately update the JTL-Connector for WooCommerce plugin to the latest version beyond 2.4.3. If an update is not available, consider disabling or removing the plugin until a patch is released. Review database access logs for unusual SQL query patterns or unauthorized data extraction attempts.
