Executive Summary

This is an insufficient session expiration vulnerability in Apache Answer versions up to 2.0.2. It allows revoked users to continue accessing private uploaded files using a stale visit token even after their access was revoked.

Detection Guidance

To detect this vulnerability, check Apache Answer version with: curl -s http://your-server/ | grep -i 'answer' or check version in admin panel. If version is below 2.0.3, the system is vulnerable. Inspect user sessions for stale tokens by reviewing access logs for private file downloads after user revocation.

Impact Analysis

If you are an Apache Answer user, revoked users could still access your private uploaded files, potentially exposing sensitive data. Upgrading to version 2.0.3 fixes this issue.

Compliance Impact

This vulnerability could potentially impact compliance with GDPR and HIPAA due to insufficient session expiration allowing unauthorized access to private files. Stale visit tokens may enable revoked users to retain access, violating data protection requirements for access control and user revocation.

Mitigation Strategies

Upgrade Apache Answer to version 2.0.3 or later to fix the insufficient session expiration issue.
