Executive Summary

This vulnerability is an incorrect implementation of an authentication algorithm in Apache Answer versions up to 2.0.2. It occurs in the User Center login integration where a newly created external user session fails to include its external identity. This allows the session to bypass central account suspension or deletion checks until the session expires or is manually revoked.

Detection Guidance

This vulnerability involves a flaw in Apache Answer's authentication where external user sessions bypass account suspension checks. To detect it, check Apache Answer logs for unusual session activity or failed authentication attempts after account suspension. Verify if external users retain access despite deactivation in the central system. No specific commands are provided in the context.

Impact Analysis

This vulnerability could allow unauthorized users to maintain access to the system even after their external accounts are suspended or deleted. Attackers could exploit this to retain access to sensitive data or system functions, potentially leading to data breaches or unauthorized actions.

Compliance Impact

This vulnerability could lead to unauthorized access to personal data, violating GDPR's data protection principles and HIPAA's access control requirements. Organizations may face compliance violations, legal penalties, and reputational damage due to potential data breaches or unauthorized data exposure.

Mitigation Strategies
