Executive Summary

The Mang Board WP plugin for WordPress has a stored Cross-Site Scripting (XSS) vulnerability in versions up to 2.4.0. The flaw exists in the 'data_type' parameter due to insufficient input sanitization and output escaping. Unauthenticated attackers can inject malicious scripts into pages, which execute when users access those pages.

Detection Guidance

To detect this vulnerability, inspect WordPress sites using the Mang Board plugin versions up to 2.4.0. Check for suspicious scripts in pages where the 'data_type' parameter is used. Look for unexpected web scripts in page content or database entries.

Impact Analysis

This vulnerability allows attackers to inject malicious scripts into your WordPress site. If exploited, these scripts can steal user data, session cookies, or perform actions on behalf of users. Visitors to your site could have their accounts compromised or be redirected to malicious websites.

Compliance Impact

This vulnerability could lead to data breaches, exposing user data. For GDPR, it may result in unauthorized data processing and failure to protect personal data. For HIPAA, it could compromise protected health information. Both could lead to legal penalties and loss of trust.

Mitigation Strategies

Update the Mang Board WP plugin to the latest version, which should address the insufficient input sanitization and output escaping issues in the 'data_type' parameter.
