Executive Summary

This vulnerability affects the Fast Courier WordPress plugin versions 5.2.3 and earlier. It allows unauthenticated attackers to modify the courier status and tracking details of any WooCommerce order by exploiting a missing authorization check in the plugin's REST endpoint called 'order-status-update'.

Detection Guidance

Check for unauthorized modifications to WooCommerce order statuses or tracking details. Monitor REST API logs for requests to the 'order-status-update' route without authentication. Inspect plugin versions to confirm if Fast Courier 5.2.3 or earlier is installed.

Impact Analysis

Attackers could change order statuses and tracking information without authentication, potentially misleading customers about their order status or causing confusion in order fulfillment processes.

Compliance Impact

This vulnerability could potentially impact compliance with GDPR and HIPAA by allowing unauthorized modification of order tracking details. Unauthenticated attackers can alter courier status and customer-facing tracking information, which may lead to unauthorized access or disclosure of personal data. This could violate GDPR's data integrity and confidentiality principles or HIPAA's requirements for protecting health-related order data.

Mitigation Strategies

Disable the Fast Courier plugin immediately if installed. Monitor WooCommerce orders for unauthorized changes. Check for updates from the plugin developer or consider removing the plugin until a patch is released.
