Executive Summary

Adobe Commerce has a stored Cross-Site Scripting (XSS) vulnerability. An attacker can inject malicious scripts into vulnerable form fields. When a victim visits the affected page, the malicious JavaScript executes in their browser, potentially allowing the attacker to gain elevated access or control over the victim's account or session.

Detection Guidance

Detecting this stored XSS vulnerability requires manual inspection of input fields in Adobe Commerce forms. Check form fields like checkout, contact, or user profile pages for unusual input handling. Look for scripts or HTML tags in stored data that render in the browser. Use browser developer tools to inspect network requests and responses for suspicious payloads.

Impact Analysis

This vulnerability could allow an attacker to steal sensitive data like session cookies or login credentials, perform actions on your behalf, or take control of your account. It may also lead to further compromise of your system or data if the malicious script escalates privileges.

Compliance Impact

This vulnerability could lead to unauthorized access to personal data, violating GDPR and HIPAA requirements for data protection and confidentiality. Organizations may face legal penalties, reputational damage, and loss of customer trust if such breaches occur due to inadequate security measures.

Mitigation Strategies

Apply the latest security patches from Adobe immediately. Enable Content Security Policy (CSP) headers to mitigate XSS impact. Sanitize all user inputs by implementing strict validation and output encoding. Review and restrict user roles with elevated permissions. Monitor form submissions for malicious patterns.
