Executive Summary

This is a vulnerability in Oracle Java SE, Oracle GraalVM for JDK, and Oracle GraalVM Enterprise Edition. It allows an unauthenticated attacker with network access to exploit the Utility component, potentially leading to unauthorized data modification or partial denial of service.

Detection Guidance

This vulnerability affects specific versions of Oracle Java SE, GraalVM for JDK, and GraalVM Enterprise Edition. Detection involves checking installed versions against the affected releases: Java SE 8u503, 8u503-perf, 11.0.32.1; GraalVM for JDK 17.0.20.1 and 21.0.12.1; GraalVM Enterprise Edition 21.3.19.1.1. Use commands like 'java -version' or 'gu -version' to check versions.

Impact Analysis

An attacker could modify or delete data in affected Java applications or cause a partial denial of service. This is especially risky for Java deployments running untrusted code, such as web-based Java applications.

Mitigation Strategies

Apply the latest patches from Oracle to upgrade to non-vulnerable versions. If immediate patching is not possible, restrict network access to Java applications, disable unnecessary Java services, and monitor for unusual activity. Consider sandboxing Java applications to limit potential impact.
