Description

F´ (F Prime) is a framework that enables development and deployment of spaceflight and other embedded software applications. Prior to 4.3.0, Svc::FileDownlink SendPartial range validation is vulnerable because the wrapping sum bypasses file-range validation, becomes m_endOffset, and leaves m_byteOffset greater than the wrapped end offset. When an existing source file is larger than the supplied startOffset and a caller able to issue SendPartial supplies a length whose U32 sum with that offset wraps, the first data-packet send reaches FW_ASSERT and aborts or resets the process, causing denial of service. This issue is fixed in version 4.3.0.

Exploitability

CWE ID Description
CWE-190 The product performs a calculation that can produce an integer overflow or wraparound when the logic assumes that the resulting value will always be larger than the original value. This occurs when an integer value is incremented to a value that is too large to store in the associated representation. When this occurs, the value may become a very small or negative number.
CWE-617 The product contains an assert() or similar statement that can be triggered by an attacker, which leads to an application exit or other behavior that is more severe than necessary.

Executive Summary

CVE-2026-92160 is an integer overflow vulnerability in the F Prime framework's FileDownlink SendPartial function. It occurs when attacker-controlled U32 values for startOffset and length wrap around during addition, bypassing range checks. This causes m_endOffset to store a wrapped value, later triggering a denial of service via FW_ASSERT when m_byteOffset exceeds m_endOffset.

Detection Guidance

Detecting this vulnerability requires checking if your F Prime framework version is prior to 4.3.0 and if the FileDownlink.SendPartial command is exposed. Inspect the framework version using commands like 'fprime-util version' or checking the release tag in the repository. Verify if the vulnerable function is reachable by reviewing command exposure in the deployment configuration.

Impact Analysis

The vulnerability can cause process crashes, interrupted file downlink operations, and denial of service for the entire deployment. Attackers can exploit it by sending crafted startOffset and length values to trigger the integer overflow and crash the system.

Compliance Impact

This vulnerability primarily causes denial of service (DoS) by triggering process crashes through integer overflow in file downlink operations. It does not directly expose or leak sensitive data, but prolonged DoS could disrupt system availability, potentially violating availability requirements in standards like HIPAA for healthcare systems or GDPR for service continuity.

Mitigation Strategies

Immediately upgrade to F Prime version 4.3.0 or later to address the integer overflow issue. If upgrading is not possible, restrict access to the FileDownlink.SendPartial command to prevent exploitation. Monitor system logs for assertion failures or process crashes, which may indicate exploitation attempts.
