Time-Based SQL Injection in SendPress Newsletters WordPress Plugin

Vulnerability report for CVE-2026-93855, including description, CVSS score, EPSS score, affected products, exploitability, helpful resources, and attack-flow context.

Description

The SendPress Newsletters plugin for WordPress is vulnerable to time-based SQL Injection via the 'subscriberid' parameter in all versions up to, and including, 1.26.1.20 due to insufficient escaping on the user supplied parameter and lack of sufficient preparation on the existing SQL query. This makes it possible for unauthenticated attackers to append additional SQL queries into already existing queries that can be used to extract sensitive information from the database. The nonce gating the handler uses the hardcoded action value 'sendpress-is-awesome', which is rendered on the same public page served by the [sp-form formid="manage"] shortcode, making it trivially obtainable by unauthenticated visitors and effectively bypassing the nonce as an access control.

CWE ID Description
CWE-89 The product constructs all or part of an SQL command using externally-influenced input from an upstream component, but it does not neutralize or incorrectly neutralizes special elements that could modify the intended SQL command when it is sent to a downstream component. Without sufficient removal or quoting of SQL syntax in user-controllable inputs, the generated SQL query can cause those inputs to be interpreted as SQL instead of ordinary user data.

Executive Summary

The SendPress Newsletters plugin for WordPress has a time-based SQL injection vulnerability in versions up to 1.26.1.20. The issue is due to insufficient escaping of the 'subscriberid' parameter and lack of proper SQL query preparation. Unauthenticated attackers can inject malicious SQL queries to extract sensitive database information.

Detection Guidance

Check for unusual SQL query patterns or errors in WordPress logs. Inspect network traffic for requests targeting the SendPress plugin with the 'subscriberid' parameter. Use tools like WPScan to scan for vulnerable versions of the plugin.

Impact Analysis

This vulnerability allows unauthenticated attackers to access sensitive data stored in the WordPress database, such as user credentials, personal information, or other confidential data. Attackers could exploit it to steal information without needing to log in.

Mitigation Strategies

Update the SendPress Newsletters plugin to the latest version. Disable the plugin if not in use. Implement web application firewall rules to block SQL injection attempts. Monitor database queries for suspicious activity.
