Executive Summary

This vulnerability in the App Builder WordPress plugin allows unauthenticated attackers to write arbitrary data to a plugin option and then redirect visitors to a URL built from that data. It exists due to missing authorization checks in versions 3.8.4 to 5.7.0.

Detection Guidance

Check if the App Builder plugin version is between 3.8.4 and 5.7.0. Use commands like 'wp plugin list' in WordPress or inspect the plugin directory for version details. Look for unauthorized modifications to plugin options or unexpected redirects.

Impact Analysis

An attacker could manipulate plugin settings to redirect users to malicious websites, potentially leading to phishing attacks, malware downloads, or other security risks. Visitors to the site may be unknowingly sent to harmful destinations.

Compliance Impact

This vulnerability could potentially impact compliance with GDPR and HIPAA by allowing unauthorized data manipulation and redirection. Unauthenticated attackers could alter plugin settings to exfiltrate user data or redirect visitors to malicious sites, violating data protection and privacy requirements under these regulations.

Mitigation Strategies
