CWE ID Description
CWE-89 The product constructs all or part of an SQL command using externally-influenced input from an upstream component, but it does not neutralize or incorrectly neutralizes special elements that could modify the intended SQL command when it is sent to a downstream component. Without sufficient removal or quoting of SQL syntax in user-controllable inputs, the generated SQL query can cause those inputs to be interpreted as SQL instead of ordinary user data.

Executive Summary

Dell PowerScale InsightIQ versions 5.2.0 through 6.3.0 have an SQL Injection vulnerability due to improper neutralization of special elements in SQL commands. This allows a low-privileged attacker with local access to potentially execute malicious SQL queries.

Detection Guidance

Detection of this SQL injection vulnerability in Dell PowerScale InsightIQ requires checking for unusual SQL query patterns or errors in logs. Monitor application logs for SQL syntax errors or unexpected queries. Inspect network traffic for suspicious database interactions. No specific commands are provided in the CVE details.

Impact Analysis

This vulnerability could lead to a Denial of Service (DoS) attack, disrupting the availability of the Dell PowerScale InsightIQ service. Attackers may exploit it to crash the system or interfere with its operations.

Compliance Impact

This vulnerability does not directly affect compliance with GDPR or HIPAA as it involves a local access SQL injection flaw in Dell PowerScale InsightIQ. However, if exploited, it could lead to denial of service, potentially disrupting data availability which may indirectly impact compliance with availability requirements in these regulations.

Mitigation Strategies

Update Dell PowerScale InsightIQ to a version beyond 6.3.0 to address the SQL injection vulnerability. Ensure only trusted users have local access to the system. Monitor for unusual database queries or system behavior that may indicate exploitation attempts.
