Executive Summary

This vulnerability affects the Payable Payment Gateway for WooCommerce WordPress plugin before version 1.3.1. It allows unauthenticated attackers to change the payment status of any order in the store without verifying the authenticity of payment notifications. This means attackers can mark orders as paid or failed regardless of the actual payment method used.

Detection Guidance

Check if the Payable Payment Gateway for WooCommerce plugin is installed and verify its version. If it is below 1.3.1, the system is vulnerable. Use commands like 'wp plugin list' in WordPress or inspect the plugin directory for version details.

Impact Analysis

If you use the vulnerable plugin version, attackers could manipulate order statuses, leading to financial losses from unpaid orders marked as paid or legitimate orders marked as failed. This could disrupt store operations and damage customer trust due to incorrect order processing.

Compliance Impact

This vulnerability could lead to unauthorized changes in order payment statuses, potentially causing financial discrepancies or data integrity issues. For GDPR, it may impact data accuracy and security requirements. For HIPAA, it could affect financial transaction integrity in healthcare-related e-commerce.

Mitigation Strategies

Update the Payable Payment Gateway for WooCommerce plugin to version 1.3.1 or later immediately. If updating is not possible, consider disabling the plugin until a patch is applied to prevent exploitation.
