Stored XSS in Verified Reviews WordPress Plugin

Vulnerability report for CVE-2026-94377, including description, CVSS score, EPSS score, affected products, exploitability, helpful resources, and attack-flow context.

Description

The Verified Reviews (Avis Vérifiés) plugin for WordPress is vulnerable to Stored Cross-Site Scripting via the 'moderation' parameter in all versions up to, and including, 2.4.6 due to insufficient input sanitization and output escaping. This makes it possible for unauthenticated attackers to inject arbitrary web scripts in pages that will execute whenever a user accesses an injected page. The authentication bypass is possible because ntav_check_data() uses loose != comparisons for signature verification, allowing a JSON body with boolean true values for idWebsite and sign to pass all checks on any configured installation.

Executive Summary

The Verified Reviews WordPress plugin has a stored cross-site scripting (XSS) vulnerability due to insufficient input sanitization in the 'moderation' parameter. This allows unauthenticated attackers to inject malicious scripts into pages. The issue is worsened by an authentication bypass flaw where signature verification uses loose comparisons, enabling attackers to bypass security checks.

Detection Guidance

To detect this vulnerability, inspect WordPress sites using the Verified Reviews plugin up to version 2.4.6. Check for suspicious scripts in pages where user input is rendered, particularly via the 'moderation' parameter. Review server logs for unauthorized script injections or unusual JSON requests with boolean true values for idWebsite and sign.

Impact Analysis

Attackers could steal user sessions, redirect visitors to malicious sites, or deface your website. Since the vulnerability allows script injection without authentication, any visitor to an affected page could be compromised. This could lead to data theft, malware distribution, or reputational damage.

Compliance Impact

This vulnerability could lead to unauthorized data access or modification, violating GDPR's integrity and confidentiality requirements. For HIPAA, it may expose protected health information to unauthorized parties, risking compliance with security rules.

Mitigation Strategies

Update the Verified Reviews (Avis Vérifiés) plugin to the latest version beyond 2.4.6 immediately. Remove any suspicious scripts injected via the 'moderation' parameter and review user roles for unauthorized changes.
