Description

In the Linux kernel, the following vulnerability has been resolved: usb: typec: anx7411 - stop the IRQ before destroying the workqueue The IRQ is devm-managed, so it can still queue plat->work while remove() is tearing the queue down. Disable it first.

Executive Summary

This vulnerability in the Linux kernel involves a race condition in the USB Type-C ANX7411 driver. The issue occurs because the IRQ handler can still queue work to a workqueue after the driver's remove function starts destroying it. The fix ensures the IRQ is disabled before the workqueue is torn down to prevent this race condition.

Detection Guidance

This vulnerability is specific to the Linux kernel's USB Type-C driver (anx7411). Detection requires checking if the affected driver is loaded and examining kernel logs for related errors. Use commands like 'lsmod | grep anx7411' to check if the module is loaded and 'dmesg | grep anx7411' to review kernel messages for anomalies.

Impact Analysis

This vulnerability could lead to system instability or crashes if the IRQ triggers workqueue operations during driver removal. It may cause unexpected behavior in USB Type-C functionality but is unlikely to directly impact end users beyond potential device unavailability or kernel errors.

Compliance Impact

This vulnerability does not directly affect compliance with standards like GDPR or HIPAA as it is a low-level kernel issue related to USB Type-C device handling. No evidence suggests it impacts data protection or privacy requirements.

Mitigation Strategies

Update the Linux kernel to the latest patched version to resolve the usb typec anx7411 IRQ issue. Check your distribution's security updates or kernel patches for CVE-2026-98768.
