Open Redirect Vulnerability in Product

Vulnerability report for CVE-2024-2372, including description, CVSS score, EPSS score, affected products, exploitability, helpful resources, and attack-flow context.

Publication date: 2026-11-02

Last updated on: 2026-11-02

Assigner: WSO2 LLC

Description

The affected components accept user-supplied input for constructing redirection URLs without enforcing expected validation constraints. This allows an attacker to provide a crafted URL that can redirect users to an arbitrary external domain. By leveraging this open redirection vulnerability, an attacker can craft a malicious link that, when clicked by a user, redirects them to an attacker-controlled page. This can be used in conjunction with social engineering techniques to execute phishing attacks, aiming to obtain sensitive information or cause other harm.

Executive Summary

This vulnerability allows attackers to craft malicious URLs that redirect users to arbitrary external domains. The affected components do not properly validate user-supplied input used for constructing redirection URLs, enabling open redirection attacks.

Detection Guidance

This vulnerability involves open redirection in WSO2 products. To detect it, inspect web application logs for unusual URL redirections or user-supplied input in redirect parameters. Check for patterns like 'redirect=', 'url=', or 'next=' in URLs. Test by manually crafting URLs with external domains to see if redirection occurs.

Impact Analysis

An attacker could use this to trick users into visiting malicious sites via phishing links. This may lead to theft of sensitive information like login credentials or session tokens. Users might unknowingly expose personal or corporate data.

Compliance Impact

This vulnerability could indirectly impact compliance with GDPR and HIPAA by enabling phishing attacks that steal sensitive user data or credentials. Open redirection flaws may violate data protection principles requiring secure handling of user interactions and could lead to unauthorized access to personal or health information.

Mitigation Strategies

Immediately update affected WSO2 products to the latest patched versions. Implement strict input validation for all redirect parameters, ensuring only trusted domains are allowed. Configure web application firewalls to block requests with suspicious redirection patterns. Disable open redirection in server configurations.
