Cross-Site Scripting in Management Console User Search

Vulnerability report for CVE-2024-7075, including description, CVSS score, EPSS score, affected products, exploitability, helpful resources, and attack-flow context.

Publication date: 2026-11-02

Last updated on: 2026-11-02

Assigner: WSO2 LLC

Description

The user search function within the management console fails to properly encode user-supplied input before rendering it in the browser. This allows an attacker to inject malicious scripts that are then executed by the user's browser in the context of the management console. Successful exploitation enables an attacker to redirect the user's browser to a malicious website, modify the web page's user interface, or extract information from the browser. However, due to the use of the httpOnly flag on sensitive session cookies, session hijacking or similar attacks are prevented.

Executive Summary

This vulnerability is a cross-site scripting (XSS) flaw in the management console's user search function. It occurs because user input is not properly encoded before being displayed in the browser. Attackers can inject malicious scripts that execute in the context of the management console.

Detection Guidance

This vulnerability involves improper input encoding in the management console's user search function, leading to potential XSS attacks. Detection requires reviewing the application's input handling and output encoding practices. No specific commands are provided in the context to directly detect this issue.

Impact Analysis

An attacker could redirect your browser to a malicious site, modify the web page's interface, or steal sensitive information from your browser. However, session hijacking is prevented due to httpOnly session cookies.

Compliance Impact

This vulnerability could lead to unauthorized data exposure or modification, which may violate GDPR's data integrity and confidentiality requirements. For HIPAA, it risks compromising protected health information if exploited in healthcare-related systems.

Mitigation Strategies

Apply input validation and output encoding to sanitize user-supplied data in the management console. Ensure the httpOnly flag is set on session cookies to prevent session hijacking. Update to the latest patched version of the affected WSO2 products.
