Executive Summary

This is an unauthenticated stored cross-site scripting (XSS) vulnerability in the Cloud Blocks WordPress plugin version 1.1.8 or below. It occurs because the plugin does not perform proper authorization checks or sanitization when storing block asset URLs. This allows attackers to inject malicious scripts that execute in the browsers of privileged users, such as administrators, when they access the block editor.

Detection Guidance

To detect this vulnerability, check if the Cloud Blocks WordPress plugin version 1.1.8 or below is installed. Inspect the plugin's code for improper authorization checks and lack of sanitization in block asset URL storage. Review browser console logs for unexpected script executions when accessing the block editor.

Impact Analysis

An attacker could exploit this vulnerability to inject malicious scripts into your WordPress site. When an administrator or other privileged user accesses the block editor, the injected script would execute in their browser, potentially leading to unauthorized actions, data theft, or further compromise of your site.

Compliance Impact

This vulnerability could lead to data breaches, which may violate compliance requirements under GDPR, HIPAA, or other regulations. If user data is compromised due to the injected scripts, organizations could face legal penalties, reputational damage, and loss of trust.

Mitigation Strategies

Immediately update the Cloud Blocks plugin to the latest version if available. If no update exists, consider disabling the plugin until a patch is released. Restrict access to the WordPress admin panel and block editor to trusted users only.
