Reflected XSS in Authentication Endpoint

Vulnerability report for CVE-2025-5769, including description, CVSS score, EPSS score, affected products, exploitability, helpful resources, and attack-flow context.

Publication date: 2026-11-03

Last updated on: 2026-11-03

Assigner: WSO2 LLC

Description

The authentication endpoint does not properly encode user-supplied input before rendering it within the web page. This lack of output encoding allows an attacker to inject malicious JavaScript payloads into the authentication flow, which are then executed by the victim's browser. By exploiting this vulnerability, an attacker can redirect the user's browser to a malicious website, modify the content of the web page displayed to the user, or exfiltrate information from the browser. However, due to the implementation of the httpOnly flag on session-related sensitive cookies, session hijacking and similar attacks are not possible.

Executive Summary

This vulnerability is a cross-site scripting (XSS) flaw in the authentication endpoint. It occurs because user input is not properly encoded before being displayed on the web page. This allows attackers to inject malicious JavaScript code into the authentication process.

Impact Analysis

An attacker could use this to redirect your browser to a malicious site, alter the content you see on the page, or steal sensitive information from your browser. However, session hijacking is prevented due to the use of httpOnly cookies.

Mitigation Strategies

Implement proper output encoding for user-supplied input in the authentication endpoint to prevent JavaScript injection. Ensure all dynamic content is sanitized before rendering in the web page.
