Executive Summary

The IVPAY payments WordPress plugin up to version 1.0.8 has a flaw where it does not properly sanitize the 'payment_id' parameter in its payment callback function. This allows unauthenticated attackers to inject malicious SQL code into database queries. Additionally, the plugin incorrectly accepts an empty API key as valid authentication, letting attackers bypass security controls entirely.

Detection Guidance

Check if the IVPAY payments WordPress plugin version 1.0.8 or earlier is installed. Look for suspicious SQL queries or unauthorized database access attempts in logs. Use tools like WPScan to scan for vulnerable plugins.

Impact Analysis

This vulnerability allows attackers to read sensitive data from the database without authentication. They could access user information, payment details, or other confidential data stored in the WordPress site's database. The lack of a fix and the critical severity increase the risk of exploitation.

Compliance Impact

This vulnerability could lead to non-compliance with GDPR and HIPAA by exposing personal or health data. GDPR requires protection of personal data, and HIPAA mandates safeguards for health information. A breach could result in legal penalties, fines, and reputational damage.

Mitigation Strategies

Immediately update the IVPAY payments plugin to the latest version if available. If no update exists, consider disabling or removing the plugin until a patch is released. Monitor database access and block suspicious queries.
