Description

SuiteCRM is an open-source, enterprise-ready Customer Relationship Management (CRM) software application. Prior to 7.15.2 and 8.10.2, V8 API relationship write paths do not consistently enforce object-level edit and view authorization on both related records. In the verified Account-to-Contact case, an authenticated user can create a relationship while unable to edit the Account and can delete relationship links to a hidden Contact that cannot be viewed directly. This issue is fixed in versions 7.15.2 and 8.10.2.

Executive Summary

SuiteCRM versions before 7.15.2 and 8.10.2 have a flaw in the V8 API where relationship write operations do not properly enforce object-level edit and view permissions. This means an authenticated user can create or delete relationships between records even if they lack permission to edit or view those records directly.

Impact Analysis

An attacker with access could manipulate relationships between records, such as linking or unlinking accounts to contacts without proper permissions. This could lead to unauthorized data exposure or integrity issues in the CRM system.

Compliance Impact

This vulnerability could lead to unauthorized access or modification of sensitive data, potentially violating GDPR or HIPAA requirements for data protection and access controls. Organizations using affected versions may face compliance risks.

Mitigation Strategies

Upgrade SuiteCRM to versions 7.15.2 or 8.10.2 or later to address the authorization bypass in V8 API relationship operations.
