Description

The WATI Chat and Notification WordPress plugin through 1.1.8 does not require a valid, non-empty secret on a public endpoint that returns its stored API token, which an unauthenticated attacker can then present to a second public endpoint to obtain the order-received URL of any WooCommerce order and read the customer's name, address, phone number and email address. The endpoints are reachable in the WATI Chat and Notification WordPress plugin through 1.1.8's default state and are closed only once a WATI account is connected.

Executive Summary

This vulnerability in the WATI Chat and Notification WordPress plugin through version 1.1.8 allows unauthenticated attackers to access sensitive customer order data. The plugin fails to validate a secret on a public endpoint, exposing its stored API token. Attackers can use this token to access another endpoint and retrieve order-received URLs for any WooCommerce order, exposing customer details like name, address, phone number, and email.

Detection Guidance

Check if the WATI Chat and Notification WordPress plugin version is 1.1.8 or below. Inspect network traffic for requests to the vulnerable endpoints (/wati-webhook and /wati-order-received) to see if they return sensitive order data without authentication.

Impact Analysis

If you use the affected plugin, attackers could steal customer order information, leading to privacy breaches, identity theft risks, or misuse of personal data. Customers' sensitive details may be exposed without their knowledge.

Compliance Impact

This vulnerability likely violates GDPR and other privacy regulations by exposing personal data without consent. Organizations using the plugin may face legal penalties, fines, or reputational damage for failing to protect customer information.

Mitigation Strategies

Update the WATI Chat and Notification plugin to the latest version immediately. If an update is not available, consider disabling the plugin until a patch is released. Ensure a WATI account is connected to close the vulnerable endpoints.
