Executive Summary

This vulnerability involves a missing permission check in Apache OFBiz's accounting module. Users with only ACCOUNTING_VIEW permission can unexpectedly perform ACCOUNTING_UPDATE or ACCOUNTING_CREATE actions, allowing unauthorized modifications to PaymentApplication records.

Detection Guidance

This vulnerability allows unauthorized users with ACCOUNTING_VIEW permission to update or create PaymentApplication records due to missing checks in ACCOUNTING_UPDATE and ACCOUNTING_CREATE operations. To detect it, verify if users with only ACCOUNTING_VIEW permission can perform these actions. Check Apache OFBiz logs for unusual PaymentApplication modifications by low-privilege users. Ensure your version is 24.09.08 or later.

Impact Analysis

An attacker with ACCOUNTING_VIEW permission could create or modify PaymentApplication records without proper authorization. This could lead to financial discrepancies, fraudulent transactions, or unauthorized changes to payment records.

Compliance Impact

This vulnerability could violate compliance requirements that mandate strict access controls for financial data. Unauthorized modifications to payment records may breach GDPR's integrity principles or HIPAA's safeguards for protected health information.

Mitigation Strategies

Upgrade to Apache OFBiz version 24.09.08 or later to address the missing permission check in ACCOUNTING_UPDATE and ACCOUNTING_CREATE operations.
