Executive Summary

This vulnerability in the Kali Forms WordPress plugin before version 2.4.30 allows authenticated users with minimal privileges (Subscriber and above) to disclose the email addresses of any registered user, including administrators. The issue occurs because the plugin fails to perform a capability check when handling a test-email function, relying only on a nonce accessible to any logged-in user.

Detection Guidance

Check the installed version of the Kali Forms plugin in WordPress. If it is below 2.4.30, the system is vulnerable. Log in as a Subscriber or higher and attempt to access the test-email handler to see if it reveals email addresses.

Impact Analysis

An attacker with Subscriber-level access or higher could exploit this to obtain email addresses of users, including administrators. This could lead to phishing attacks, spam, or further targeted exploits against disclosed users.

Compliance Impact

This vulnerability may violate GDPR and HIPAA by exposing personally identifiable information (PII) such as email addresses without proper authorization. Organizations could face fines or penalties for failing to protect user data adequately.

Mitigation Strategies

Update the Kali Forms plugin to version 2.4.30 or later immediately. If updating is not possible, consider disabling the plugin until an update is applied.
