Description

Inadequate authorization vulnerability in Alosuite’s user invitation functionality. The ‘/Requests/userInvitation’ endpoint does not properly validate the assignment of privileges on the server, allowing an attacker to manipulate the invitation parameters during the request process. By intercepting and modifying a legitimate invitation request, an unauthenticated attacker can assign administrative privileges to a newly invited user without the appropriate authorization checks. A successful exploit results in unauthorized privilege escalation, granting full administrative access to the affected application.

Executive Summary

This vulnerability is an inadequate authorization issue in Alosuite’s user invitation system. The '/Requests/userInvitation' endpoint fails to validate privilege assignments properly. An unauthenticated attacker can intercept and modify invitation requests to grant administrative privileges to a new user without proper authorization checks, leading to unauthorized privilege escalation.

Impact Analysis

An attacker could exploit this to gain full administrative access to the affected application. This could allow them to take control of user accounts, modify system settings, access sensitive data, or perform other malicious actions without detection.

Compliance Impact

This vulnerability could lead to unauthorized access to sensitive data, violating compliance requirements such as GDPR (data protection) and HIPAA (health information privacy). It may result in data breaches, unauthorized disclosures, and failure to meet regulatory obligations for access controls and audit logging.

Mitigation Strategies

Immediately restrict access to the '/Requests/userInvitation' endpoint and review all pending invitations for unauthorized privilege escalations. Implement strict input validation and server-side authorization checks to prevent privilege manipulation.
