Executive Summary

This vulnerability is an insecure deserialization flaw in IBM MQ's ObjectMessage payload handling. An authenticated attacker can exploit it to execute arbitrary code on consumer applications by sending specially crafted serialized data. The .NET messaging component is specifically affected.

Impact Analysis

An attacker could gain control over consumer applications, leading to potential data breaches, system compromise, or disruption of messaging services. The high CVSS score indicates significant risks to confidentiality, integrity, and availability of affected systems.

Compliance Impact

This vulnerability could lead to unauthorized access or data breaches, violating GDPR's data protection requirements and HIPAA's safeguards for protected health information. Compliance failures may result in legal penalties, fines, or reputational damage.

Mitigation Strategies

Apply the latest security updates for your IBM MQ version. For IBM MQ 9.2 LTS, install cumulative security update 9.2.0.46. For 9.3 LTS, install 9.3.0.43. For 9.4 LTS, install fix pack 9.4.0.30. Upgrade to 10.0.0.6 for 10.0 LTS or to 10.0.1.0 for 9.4 CD and 10.0 CD.
