Executive Summary

IBM TRIRIGA Application Platform 5.0.0 through 5.0.9 has a flaw where remote authenticated attackers can execute arbitrary code. This happens because the software fails to properly neutralize special elements used in OS commands, allowing command injection.

Detection Guidance

Detecting this vulnerability requires checking if your IBM TRIRIGA Application Platform version is between 5.0.0 and 5.0.9. Use the following command to check the version: grep -r "TRIRIGA Application Platform" /opt/ibm/tri/version.txt or check the version through the TRIRIGA admin console. Additionally, monitor network traffic for suspicious commands or unauthorized code execution attempts.

Impact Analysis

An attacker could gain control over the affected system, leading to unauthorized data access, modification, or deletion. This could disrupt operations and compromise sensitive information stored in TRIRIGA.

Compliance Impact

This vulnerability could lead to breaches of confidentiality and integrity, violating GDPR and HIPAA requirements for protecting personal and health data. Non-compliance may result in legal penalties and reputational damage.

Mitigation Strategies

Immediately upgrade IBM TRIRIGA Application Platform to version 5.0.10 or later as recommended by IBM. Apply the latest maintenance patches to ensure protection. Since no workarounds are provided, upgrading is the only mitigation step. Verify the upgrade by checking the version again after installation.
