Description

CSV formula injection vulnerability in the export functionality of the Coupa Supplier Portal SaaS platform. The vulnerability arises because certain user-controlled data, such as event names or templates within the Tenders module, are not properly validated or sanitised before being included in CSV files generated by the application. An attacker with low privileges can input specially crafted values that begin with characters interpreted as formulas by spreadsheet applications. When a victim downloads and opens the generated file in a compatible client, the content may be interpreted as a formula, potentially leading to unauthorised actions such as the execution of commands via mechanisms such as DDE, access to information, or interaction with system resources under the victim’s context.

Executive Summary

This is a CSV formula injection vulnerability in the Coupa Supplier Portal SaaS platform. It occurs because user-controlled data like event names or templates in the Tenders module are not properly validated before being included in exported CSV files. Attackers can inject specially crafted values that spreadsheet applications interpret as formulas. When victims open these files, the formulas may execute unauthorized actions such as command execution via DDE or access to system resources under the victim's permissions.

Impact Analysis

If you use the Coupa Supplier Portal and download CSV exports, an attacker could trick you into opening a malicious file. This might lead to unauthorized actions like data theft, system command execution, or interaction with your resources. The impact depends on your privileges and the actions the attacker can perform through the injected formulas.

Compliance Impact

This vulnerability could lead to data breaches, which may violate GDPR or HIPAA requirements for data protection and confidentiality. Unauthorized access or exfiltration of sensitive data could result in non-compliance, potential fines, or legal consequences depending on the data involved and applicable regulations.

Mitigation Strategies

Update the Coupa Supplier Portal to the latest version to ensure proper validation and sanitization of user-controlled data in CSV exports. Review and restrict user permissions to minimize the risk of low-privilege attackers exploiting this vulnerability.
