Description

The JetFormBuilder β€” Dynamic Blocks Form Builder plugin for WordPress is vulnerable to Stored Cross-Site Scripting via the '<any form field name β€” e.g. 'payload'>' parameter in all versions up to, and including, 3.6.7 due to insufficient input sanitization and output escaping. This makes it possible for unauthenticated attackers to inject arbitrary web scripts in pages that will execute whenever a user accesses an injected page. Exploitation requires the targeted form to have both the Save Form Record action enabled and a form-level Form Record preset configured; the stored payload only executes when a privileged user visits the front-end form page with the preset's record query variable set to the attacker's submitted record ID.

Executive Summary

This vulnerability is a Stored Cross-Site Scripting (XSS) flaw in the JetFormBuilder plugin for WordPress. It allows unauthenticated attackers to inject malicious scripts via form field names due to poor input sanitization and output escaping. The injected scripts execute when a privileged user visits a page with a specific form preset configured.

Detection Guidance

Check WordPress sites for the JetFormBuilder plugin versions up to 3.6.7. Inspect form fields for unusual payloads in saved records. Look for scripts in form output pages where Save Form Record and Form Record preset are enabled.

Impact Analysis

Attackers could steal sensitive user data, hijack sessions, or deface websites. Users visiting infected pages may have their accounts compromised or be redirected to malicious sites. The impact depends on the privileges of the affected user.

Compliance Impact

This vulnerability could lead to data breaches, violating GDPR and HIPAA requirements for protecting user data. Organizations may face fines or legal consequences if exploited, as it compromises data confidentiality and integrity.

Mitigation Strategies
  • Update JetFormBuilder plugin to the latest version beyond 3.6.7.
  • Disable the Save Form Record action in affected forms if not needed.
  • Remove any suspicious form field values or records from the database.
  • Review and sanitize all form inputs and outputs to prevent XSS.
