Executive Summary

The Post Duplicator WordPress plugin before version 3.0.17 has a flaw where it does not verify if a user has permission to view a post before showing its title and hierarchy. This allows users with the Contributor role or higher to see draft and private posts from other users.

Detection Guidance

Check the installed version of the Post Duplicator plugin in WordPress. If it is below 3.0.17, the system is vulnerable. You can verify this via the WordPress admin panel under Plugins or by inspecting the plugin files directly.

Impact Analysis

If you use the Post Duplicator plugin in versions prior to 3.0.17, unauthorized users may access sensitive post titles and hierarchy, potentially exposing private or draft content. This could lead to data leaks or unintended sharing of confidential information.

Compliance Impact

This vulnerability could violate GDPR or HIPAA by exposing private or draft content without proper authorization. Unauthorized access to sensitive data may result in compliance breaches, legal penalties, or reputational damage for organizations handling protected information.

Mitigation Strategies

Update the Post Duplicator plugin to version 3.0.17 or later immediately. If updating is not possible, consider temporarily disabling the plugin until an update can be applied.
