Executive Summary

The WP Roster WordPress plugin before version 2.36 has a vulnerability where it does not check user capabilities or use nonce verification before modifying roster data. This allows unauthenticated attackers to overwrite, delete, or restore any roster content without needing to log in.

Detection Guidance

Check the installed version of the WP Roster plugin using WordPress admin panel or via command line tools like WP-CLI. Compare the version against 2.36 or later. Look for unauthorized modifications to roster data in WordPress database tables.

Impact Analysis

If you use the WP Roster plugin before version 2.36, attackers could alter or delete important roster information, such as team member lists or schedules. This could disrupt operations, cause data loss, or lead to misinformation being displayed on your website.

Compliance Impact

This vulnerability could lead to unauthorized modification or deletion of roster data, potentially violating data integrity requirements under GDPR and HIPAA. Unauthenticated attackers may alter or erase sensitive information, compromising compliance with these regulations.

Mitigation Strategies

Immediately update the WP Roster plugin to version 2.36 or later. If updating is not possible, consider disabling the plugin temporarily until an update is applied. Review roster data for unauthorized changes and restore from a clean backup if compromised.
