Description

Authorization Bypass Through User-Controlled Key (CWE-639) in Kibana can lead to information disclosure via Accessing Functionality Not Properly Constrained by ACLs (CAPEC-1). An authenticated user with read access to connectors in one Kibana space can retrieve connector execution log information from other spaces that they are not authorized to access. The disclosed information includes connector names and identifiers, execution status, timestamps, error messages, and aggregated execution statistics.

Executive Summary

CVE-2026-115295 is an authorization bypass vulnerability in Kibana classified as CWE-639. It allows authenticated users with read access to connectors in one Kibana space to retrieve connector execution log information from other spaces they are not authorized to access. This includes details like connector names, identifiers, execution status, timestamps, error messages, and aggregated statistics.

Detection Guidance

Check Kibana version with curl -XGET 'http://localhost:5601/api/console/api_server?path=info&method=GET' | grep version. If running 8.19.23 or earlier, or 9.4.8 or earlier, the system is vulnerable.

Impact Analysis

If you use Kibana versions 8.19.23 or earlier (8.x) or 9.4.8 or earlier (9.x), an attacker with read access to connectors in one space could access sensitive log data from other spaces. This could lead to unauthorized information disclosure, potentially exposing operational details or errors that should remain private.

Compliance Impact

This vulnerability could impact compliance by allowing unauthorized access to sensitive data, which may violate GDPR's data protection principles or HIPAA's requirements for safeguarding protected health information. Unauthorized disclosure of execution logs could lead to regulatory penalties or breaches of confidentiality.

Mitigation Strategies

Upgrade Kibana to versions 8.19.24, 9.4.9, or 9.5.6 or later immediately. No workarounds exist if upgrading is not possible.
