Thread Control Flaw in Eclipse ThreadX

Vulnerability report for CVE-2026-115654, including description, CVSS score, EPSS score, affected products, exploitability, helpful resources, and attack-flow context.

Publication date: 2026-11-02

Last updated on: 2026-11-02

Assigner: Eclipse Foundation

Description

In Eclipse ThreadX versions 6.0.1 through 6.5.2.202603, the Module Manager's thread-control services do not check that a thread passed by a user-mode, memory-protected module belongs to that module. Any loaded module can suspend, resume, terminate, reset or re-prioritise application threads and other modules' threads and abort their waits, denying service or changing how the system schedules them.

Executive Summary

This vulnerability in Eclipse ThreadX versions 6.0.1 through 6.5.2.202603 allows any loaded module to control threads not belonging to it. The Module Manager's thread-control services fail to verify if a thread passed by a user-mode module is actually part of that module. This enables malicious modules to suspend, resume, terminate, reset, re-prioritize, or abort waits of application threads and other modules' threads, disrupting system scheduling and causing denial of service.

Detection Guidance

Detecting this vulnerability requires checking Eclipse ThreadX versions and analyzing thread-control services for improper authorization. Verify if your system runs affected versions (6.0.1 to 6.5.2.202603) using version-check commands like 'tx_version' or examining build metadata. Inspect Module Manager logs for unauthorized thread manipulations or unexpected thread state changes.

Impact Analysis

An attacker could exploit this to disrupt critical system operations by suspending or terminating threads running essential services. This could lead to system crashes, unresponsive applications, or unpredictable behavior. Since any module can manipulate threads, even trusted modules might be compromised to cause widespread service disruption.

Compliance Impact

This vulnerability could impact compliance with standards like GDPR and HIPAA by enabling denial-of-service attacks that disrupt critical system operations. For GDPR, it may affect availability of personal data processing systems. For HIPAA, it could compromise the integrity and availability of protected health information systems.

Mitigation Strategies

Upgrade Eclipse ThreadX to a version beyond 6.5.2.202603 where the Module Manager's thread-control services have been fixed to validate thread ownership.
