CWE ID Description
CWE-89 The product constructs all or part of an SQL command using externally-influenced input from an upstream component, but it does not neutralize or incorrectly neutralizes special elements that could modify the intended SQL command when it is sent to a downstream component. Without sufficient removal or quoting of SQL syntax in user-controllable inputs, the generated SQL query can cause those inputs to be interpreted as SQL instead of ordinary user data.

Executive Summary

This is a SQL injection vulnerability in Trellix DLP on-prem extensions version 11.13.1 and earlier. It allows a remote authenticated attacker to inject malicious SQL queries because the application does not use sanitization or parameterized queries.

Impact Analysis

A successful exploit could allow an attacker to manipulate the database, potentially accessing, modifying, or deleting sensitive data stored in the DLP system. This could lead to unauthorized data exposure or loss of integrity.

Compliance Impact

This vulnerability could lead to non-compliance with GDPR, HIPAA, or other regulations due to unauthorized data access or breaches. Organizations may face legal penalties, reputational damage, and loss of trust if sensitive data is compromised.

Mitigation Strategies

Immediately update DLP on-prem extensions to a version later than 11.13.1 to address the SQL injection flaw. Review database access logs for unusual queries or patterns indicating exploitation attempts.
